Buyer's Premium:

A late Victorian mantel clock of architectural form, featuring a case constructed from black slate or Belgian black marble with inset red-veined marble pilasters and a corresponding red marble plinth base. The case is surmounted by a moulded, overhanging cornice. The circular white enamel dial has black Roman numeral hour markers and a simple minute track, housed behind a hinged glass cover within a gilt brass bezel with a beaded border. A single winding aperture is located at the 6 o’clock position. The rear is fitted with a circular brass door containing an openwork foliate sound fret, opening to reveal a mechanical pendulum-driven timepiece movement. The backplate is stamped with the numerals 6 7 5 1 and 4 4, and includes a partially legible circular maker’s mark.

Condition report:

The slate case exhibits minor nibbles to the edges and surface dust. The enamel dial shows significant damage and loss around the winding aperture. The working order of the movement has not been tested and is unknown. Winding key is absent. Pendulum is present.
