A collection of two separate oak-cased sets of silver-plated cutlery. The first set is a fruit or dessert service, featuring knives with plain rounded blades and forks with three tines, all fitted with ivorine handles. These are housed in a rectangular oak case with a blue velvet and satin-lined interior. The second set is a fish service, featuring knives with engraved foliate decoration to the blades and forks with four tines, all with decorative ferrules and ivorine handles. This set is contained within a fitted oak canteen with a ruched royal blue velvet lining, a vacant brass shield-shaped cartouche to the lid, and an accompanying key in the lock. Marks on the blades of the fish cutlery include characters resembling EP, indicating electroplated nickel silver. No specific maker’s mark is clearly identifiable.
Condition report:
Both sets show signs of age-related wear. There is surface scratching and tarnishing to the silver-plated surfaces. The ivorine handles exhibit light typical discoloration. One fork is missing from the fish service set. The oak cases show minor scuffs and wear consistent with age and use.
