A set of modernist, Brutalist-inspired sculptures depicting a jazz band, constructed from welded industrial metal components and wire. The group features various musicians, including a pianist seated at an upright piano, a guitarist, a standing trumpeter, and a drummer. The figures are highly stylised, characterised by elongated limbs and abstract heads, finished with a textured faux-bronze and polychrome patina. The front of the bass drum is pierced with the words JAZZ BAND in a block font. The standing musicians are mounted on integral, flat rectangular metal plate bases. While the aesthetic is consistent with the mid-to-late 20th-century metal sculptures by artists such as Jim Lewk or commercial decorative tube art, no signatures, maker marks, or foundry stamps are visible on the pieces.
Condition report:
The sculptures are in good condition, consistent with their intentional rustic and distressed finish. There is some minor accumulated surface dust throughout. The welded joints appear structurally sound with no visible breaks or previous repairs.
