A collection of decorative items, primarily featuring a Middle Eastern-style coffee service. The service comprises a tall, lidded coffee pot (aftaba) with a hinged top and curved spout, several matching pedestal goblets, and a circular tray. These items are constructed from cast and chased brass, decorated with floral and foliate motifs featuring recessed areas of red and green polychrome lacquer. This style of work is characteristic of Indian brassware production for the export market. The lot further includes a square, cast metal perpetual calendar plaque with an integrated stand, featuring a central sunburst motif and concentric rings of perforations numbered 1 to 31. The lower portion displays Roman numerals I to XII. Also present is a bulbous ruby-red glass decanter with a matching spherical stopper and a pair of miniature metal ewers with a copper-toned patinated finish.
Condition report:
The brassware exhibits surface tarnish and wear to the coloured pigments. The copper-toned ewers show surface oxidation and signs of verdigris. The perpetual calendar is missing its original marking pegs. The glass decanter and stopper appear to be in good condition with no apparent chips or cracks.
