A lot comprising two decorative framed prints. The first is a modern colour reproduction of a maritime oil painting by Montague Dawson, depicting a multi-masted clipper ship under full sail in a dynamic sea. The print bears the signature MONTAGUE DAWSON in the lower right corner and is professionally presented in a contemporary gilded wood frame with a double card mount in blue and white. The second is a reproduction of Willem Blaeu’s 17th-century double-hemisphere world map titled NOVA TOTIUS TERRARUM SIVE NOVI ORBIS TABULA. This decorative version is executed on a metallic foil surface with green-tinted highlights and features a descriptive text panel to the right titled BLAEU WALL MAP. It is housed in an ornate, deep-moulded gilded composite frame.
Condition report:
The Montague Dawson maritime print is in good condition with no evidence of foxing or toning; the frame shows minor handling scuffs to the edges. The world map reproduction is in poor condition, exhibiting significant degradation of the metallic foil including cracking, peeling, and substantial surface loss throughout the hemisphere regions. Its gilded frame shows minor surface chips and wear consistent with age.
