A pair of chromolithograph prints on paper by the British sporting artist Cecil Aldin (1870-1935), titled ‘The Huntsman’ and ‘The Whip’. The first print depicts a huntsman in a traditional red hunting coat on a grey horse leading a pack of hounds past a wooden signpost. The second print features two huntsmen on horseback accompanied by a pack of hounds. Both works are rendered in the artist’s signature illustrative style, characterised by bold outlines and flat planes of colour against minimalist backgrounds. Signed ‘© Cecil Aldin’ lower right on the upper print. Each print is presented in a matching black-painted wooden frame with a narrow gilded inner slip.
Condition report:
Both prints show significant age-related discolouration, staining, and prominent foxing throughout the paper, particularly visible in the margins. The upper print exhibits a substantial horizontal crease or closed tear in the paper substrate extending from the right-hand edge through the central horse and rider. The frames show minor scuffing and paint loss consistent with age.
