This 20th-century decorative wall hanging depicts a stylised elephant head, hand-carved from a tropical hardwood. The sculpture features large, flared ears and a trunk that curves upwards at the base. The wood possesses a polished finish with darker stained highlights accentuating the textured carvings around the eyes, trunk, and ears. The tusks are separate pieces inset into the head. The carving style is consistent with traditional Thai woodcraft. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are present on the visible surfaces.
Condition report:
The proper left tusk is broken with the tip missing. There are several minor surface scuffs and scratches, most notably on the forehead and trunk area. Light dust accumulation is present within the recessed carvings.
