A varied collection of carved wooden elephant figures. The collection features a wide array of sizes and styles, primarily executed in various hardwoods including ebony, teak, and mahogany-type woods. The carvings range from naturalistic and highly detailed studies to more stylized, modernist, and abstract interpretations. Many figures include inlaid tusks of contrasting white material. The poses vary from standing and walking to figures with raised trunks. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are present.
Individual figures range in size from approximately 3 cm to 20 cm in height.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall good vintage condition. Specific defects include several figures missing one or both tusks. Scattered surface abrasions, scuffs, and minor chips are present on the ears and trunks of multiple pieces. Natural drying cracks, known as shakes, are present in some of the larger wooden carvings. Some remnants of adhesive price labels and old dust are present across the collection.
