A large-scale wall-mounted sculpture depicting an elephant’s head, intricately hand-carved from a dark-toned hardwood. The piece is rendered in a frontal pose with wide, flared ears featuring undulating edges and stylized veining. The trunk is detailed with deep, rhythmic horizontal incisions to simulate skin texture and is curled upwards at the tip. Two curved tusks, carved from a contrasting lighter-coloured wood with visible grain, are inset into the trunk base. The forehead and cheeks display dense, hand-tooled textural patterns. The reverse is fitted with a metal mounting loop for wall display. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are present on the sculpture.
Condition report:
The sculpture is in good decorative condition. There is a visible accumulation of surface dust within the deeply carved recesses and textural details. Minor surface scuffing and light wear to the polished finish are present, particularly on the outer edges of the ears and the tips of the tusks. Small, natural drying fissures or grain separations, typical of large-scale timber carvings, may be present.
