A reproduction cast iron sign depicting the name CORNISHMAN in raised serif-less block capitals. The plaque is designed with a curved eyebrow profile, reminiscent of nameplates found on Great Western Railway and British Railways express locomotives. The sign features a traditional monochrome colour scheme with a white painted face and letters against a black painted background and border. The textured surface indicates a sand-casting production method. The item is secured to a modern two-part wooden laminate display board by four Phillips head screws. Labels attached to the backing board include an older auction sticker from Shobrook & Co of Plymouth and a handwritten inventory code G1004P.
Condition report:
The sign shows moderate surface wear including small paint chips and scuffs, primarily located along the raised borders and near the screw heads. The cast metal remains structurally sound without visible cracks. The wooden mounting board displays minor edge wear.
