A contemporary trestle-style Coffee table handcrafted from solid elm by wood turner John Trippas of Modbury, South Devon. The table features a substantial solid slab top with natural live or waney edges along the long sides, showcasing the characteristic undulating grain and figuring of the timber. The base is constructed with two shaped slab-form upright supports connected by a low-slung central stretcher. This stretcher is secured to the uprights using traditional exposed tusk tenon joints with wooden wedges. The construction is solid throughout, with a warm honey-toned finish.
Condition report:
The table is in good, structurally sound condition. The solid elm top shows evidence of use with light surface scratches and faint watermarks. There is a prominent natural knot on the tabletop with a small, stable fissure typical of the wood type. The edges exhibit minor indentations consistent with the natural waney-edge style. The tusk tenon joints remain tight and secure.
