A large-scale British Union Flag of multi-piece construction. The flag is assembled from individual panels of red, white, and blue bunting, manufactured from a wool or wool-blend fabric, which have been machine-stitched together. It features a heavy-duty white canvas hoist sleeve on the left edge containing a rope halyard and a single wooden toggle at the top for attachment to maritime rigging or a flagpole. This traditional construction of stitched panels is characteristic of flags produced for naval or official service. No maker marks, size stamps, or government property marks are visible on the canvas hoist.
Condition report:
The flag is in a heavily weathered and distressed condition. There is significant fraying and tattering with loss of fabric at the fly end. Widespread staining, dark spots, and general discoloration are present throughout all coloured panels. Several small holes are visible in the bunting material. The canvas hoist sleeve is heavily soiled and shows signs of age and service use.
