An antique table gong featuring a mahogany frame in the neoclassical taste. The architectural structure comprises a triangular pediment top supported by two fluted columns, mounted on a tiered rectangular plinth base. Centrally suspended from a brass hook is a large, cylindrical brass tubular bell. The set includes a matching turned wood striker with a rounded head and an integrated brass hook for hanging on the frame. The mahogany exhibits a dark stain with a visible straight grain. The brass cylinder is of heavy gauge construction with flat end-caps. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are visible on the object.
Condition report:
The mahogany frame is structurally sound with minor surface abrasions, nicks, and finish wear consistent with age, particularly to the edges of the pediment and base. The brass tubular gong shows significant natural surface patination, oxidation, and scattered areas of verdigris, notably around the suspension eyelet. The original striker is present and functional.
