Buyer's Premium:

A large-format Victorian edition of The Pilgrim’s Progress and Other Works by John Bunyan, published by Adam & Co. of Newcastle-on-Tyne. The volume is bound in heavy, dark leather or morocco-grain cloth featuring elaborate gilt and blind-stamped decorative motifs. The front board displays the title in stylised lettering alongside circular vignettes of Bedford Jail and Bunyan’s cottage. The fore-edge is equipped with two original ornate brass clasps. The interior contains numerous full-page chromolithograph colour plates, including a scene titled Christian at the Wicket-Gate. A handwritten gift inscription in black ink on a front flyleaf reads: Frederick Ford. In Loving Remembrance of his Grandmother Ford. Oct 4th 1901.

Condition report:

Poor to fair condition. The spine is severely compromised with approximately half of the backstrip missing, exposing the underlying binding structure and paper. The boards show heavy rubbing, scuffing, and wear to the edges and corners. Internal pages and plate margins exhibit significant foxing and brown spotting throughout. The brass clasps remain attached but show signs of tarnish.
