Buyer's Premium:

A collection of maritime prints depicting West Country coastal scenes, including subjects in Plymouth, Appledore, and the Isles of Scilly. The group comprises various printing techniques and periods of production.

The first item is a hand-coloured steel line engraving titled The Barbican, Pool, &c. Plymouth. The plate identifies the artist as Thomas Allom and the engraver as H. Wallis. A certificate of authenticity from Foxsmith Galleries, Plymouth, is affixed to the reverse, dating the print to circa 1830.

The second item is a colour offset lithograph of St. Mary’s harbour, Isles of Scilly, by Kevin Platt. The work is signed in the plate at the lower right. A printed biographical label for the artist is attached to the backing board, noting his birth in Manchester in 1945 and his later career in Cornwall. The print is distributed by Pictures (Cornwall) Ltd.

The third item is a black-and-white photomechanical print from the Valentines Series titled At the Quay, Appledore. The image includes the series number 18974. The reverse bears a label for Marlborough Frames, Plymouth.

The fourth item is a hand-coloured photomechanical print depicting Appledore. The Quay. High Tide. This print features a handwritten signature in ink at the lower centre and is dated 23.12.02. It is presented in a matching frame to the Valentines Series print, also bearing a Marlborough Frames label on the reverse.

All prints are presented behind glass in decorative frames. The Thomas Allom engraving is in a gilt-toned frame with a light mount. The Kevin Platt print is in a dark wood-finish frame with a dark brown mount. The two Appledore prints are housed in matching gilt-finish frames with dark brown mounts.

Condition report:

The collection is in generally good condition. The circa 1830 steel engraving shows expected age-related toning and minor foxing to the paper. The photomechanical prints and offset lithograph appear well-preserved with minimal fading. Frames show light handling wear, small scuffs to the edges, and some aging to the backing paper and tape.
