This set of desk accessories is crafted from dark, veined Cornish serpentine stone with a combination of polished and rough-hewn finishes. The collection includes an aneroid barometer, a lighthouse-form table lamp, a small flared vase, and a circular dish. The barometer is set into a substantial rough-hewn block with a polished circular face. The white metal dial features barometric pressure scales in inches and millibars alongside weather forecast indicators. It is marked with the winged SB logo and the text Short and Mason, London, Made in England, and Brit. Pat. No. 543022. The electric table lamp is fashioned as a lighthouse with a polished, tapered column on a rough-hewn base, featuring a glass lantern containing an incandescent bulb. The small vase has a polished flared rim and pedestal base, and the circular dish features a polished interior bowl with a natural stone exterior.
Condition report:
The glass covering the barometer dial is severely cracked and broken. The lighthouse lamp has clear adhesive tape wrapped around the glass lantern section, suggesting a possible repair or loose component; electrical components are untested. The flared vase exhibits several small chips along the upper rim. General light surface wear and natural variations in the stone are present across the collection.
