A twelve-piece fine bone china coffee service manufactured by Shelley, England. The collection comprises one tall lidded coffee pot, one cream jug, five cups, and five saucers. The service is decorated in pattern number 13845, which features transfer-printed teal and brown leaf motifs interspersed with small brown starbursts against a white ground. The interiors of the cups and jug, as well as the exterior of the coffee pot lid, are finished in a pale mint green glaze. The pieces are characterised by a refined, fluted and scalloped form. The base of the coffee pot bears a green transfer-printed factory mark for Shelley Potteries, Longton, Staffordshire, featuring a scrolled shield-shaped frame containing the name Shelley, with Fine Bone China above and England below. A hand-painted R and the pattern number 13845 are present in red to the side of the mark.
Condition report:
The set is in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or hairlines. The glaze remains bright and the transfer-printed decoration is crisp and well-preserved. There is a small dark firing speck on the green glaze of the coffee pot lid, which is a minor manufacturing characteristic common to bone china of this period.
