Buyer's Premium:

This is a diverse collection of printed ephemera and commemorative materials, primarily British and European, dating from 1895 to 1953. The items are presented in a modern white four-ring binder with individual plastic protective sleeves. Historical and educational works include Chronological and Genealogical Tables Illustrative of English History by John Charles Curtis, published by Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent and Co., Limited, London (1895), featuring orange card covers and a red cloth spine. Also present are issues of The Times History and Encyclopaedia of the War (circa 1917), including Part 143 (The German Peace Campaign) and a supplement on The Shah of Persia. Royal commemoratives comprise The King’s Jubilee Speeches (1935) published by The Morning Post with an attached purple silk ribbon; The King’s Silver Jubilee Book of Songs for Treble and Alto Voices (1910-1935) by Novello and Co. Ltd; a 1953 Coronation Souvenir program for Queen Elizabeth II; and a program for The Crowning of the King and Queen. Arts and tourism items include a German-language program for the Theater an der Wien under the direction of Arthur Hellmer, a supplement for the Alte Pinakothek Munich, a Great Northern Hotel Rostrevor brochure from the Great Northern Railway Company (Ireland), and an official guide for the 1951 Festival of Britain South Bank Exhibition featuring the Festival Star design. The collection also includes an issue of Our Homes and Gardens magazine and a bookmark from Windsor Castle. Visible publisher marks include Novello and Co. Ltd, Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent and Co. Limited, and The Morning Post. A loose label for Lewannick Manor, Cornwall, is included in one sleeve. A small pencil mark reading 2 in a circle is located on the cover of the Our Homes and Gardens magazine.

Condition report:

The collection is in good vintage condition. There is general age-related tanning, toning, and light foxing throughout, typical for paper of this age. Newsprint items, particularly The Times supplements, show minor edge wear, small tears, and creasing. The 1895 Curtis book exhibits rubbing to the card covers and spine. The purple ribbon on the 1935 Jubilee booklet appears intact but is likely fragile. The 1951 Festival guide and other covers show minor surface wear and light soiling. Most items are well-preserved within the protective plastic sleeves.
