Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £20

Estimated price: £20 - £40

Buyer's Premium:

An octagonal side table in the Moorish or Anglo-Indian style, constructed from a dark-toned hardwood. The piece features extensive hand-carved chip decoration throughout. The octagonal top is centred by a large starburst motif within a circular border, surrounded by concentric bands of geometric patterns, floral carvings, and cross-hatching. The top surface is further embellished with inset mother-of-pearl or bone star and circular motifs. The top is supported by an integral eight-legged base, with each panel featuring a pierced mihrab-style arched opening and matching geometric carving with small circular inlays. This style of furniture was popularised in the United Kingdom during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, often retailed through establishments such as Liberty & Co.

Condition report:

The table is in fair antique condition with evidence of age and use. There is a significant structural split running through the centre of the octagonal top. Multiple pieces of the mother-of-pearl or bone inlay are missing, primarily from the outer decorative band. The piece shows general surface wear including scratches, minor scuffs, and small chips to the edges of the carving. The finish appears dry and would benefit from a light wax. Accumulated dust is present in the deeper recesses of the carving.
