This lot comprises two decorative vases of varying materials and forms. The first is a globular ovoid ceramic vase made from a reddish-buff earthenware clay. It features a short neck with a wide flared rim and is finished in a dark brown to black glossy glaze. The body is decorated with a manual cross-hatch or sgraffito-style texture that reveals the lighter clay body beneath the glaze. The unglazed base shows concentric throwing rings. The second item is a tall, tapered ovoid vase of Vietnamese origin. It is constructed from lacquerware over a core. The exterior is decorated using an eggshell mosaic technique, creating a dense tan and gold crackle pattern under a polished clear lacquer finish. The interior is finished in smooth black. The base is finished in matte black and bears a white circular stamp reading Linh Xuan, Made in Vietnam, and Handmade, featuring a central rhinoceros graphic.
Condition report:
The dark textured ceramic vase has a significant chip to the flared rim and shows general surface wear and minor scratching. The Linh Xuan lacquer vase is in good overall condition with no visible chips or cracks and only minor shelf wear to the matte black base.
