Start price: £10

Estimated price: £10 - £20

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of late 20th-century mahogany carver armchairs manufactured by Stuart Jones. These chairs are designed in the Hepplewhite revival style, featuring oval backs with an openwork spiderweb or wheel design centred by a carved floral boss and radiating spokes tipped with smaller floral carvings. The out-swept curved arms include carved foliate details at the knuckles and joins. Each chair stands on square tapered front legs with fluted detailing and slightly canted rear legs. The seats are over-upholstered in a cream-toned floral damask fabric. The underside of the seat frames bears two labels: a white fabric care label with the Stuart Jones branding and a green and white fire safety label indicating compliance with The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. The safety label includes a handwritten signature for H Turner and the Stuart Jones company registration number 1321838.

Condition report:

The mahogany frames show minor surface scuffs and light wear consistent with age and domestic use. The cream damask upholstery shows visible staining and light discoloration on the seat surfaces of both chairs. There is a small puncture in the black dust cover on the underside of one chair.
