The lot comprises two rugs of differing styles and origins. The first is a Beluchi hand-knotted rectangular rug featuring a vibrant red field with a large, central stepped geometric medallion. This medallion is intricately decorated with smaller geometric motifs in black, white, and shades of blue-grey. The central composition is enclosed by multiple geometric guard stripes and a wide main border featuring repeating diamond patterns. The rug is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, finished with white cotton fringes at both ends. The second item is a Chinese circular rug of hand-tufted wool construction. The design features two opposing dragons in shades of pink, terracotta, and cream on a solid mid-grey ground, depicted chasing a central flaming pearl motif. The pile exhibits hand-carving around the motifs to create a three-dimensional effect. It is finished with a plain cream outer border and a thick, knotted white fringe.
Beluchi rug: 93 cm width; 161 cm length (excluding fringe); 166 cm total length (including fringe)
Chinese circular rug: 136 cm diameter (rug body); 142 cm total diameter (including fringe).
Condition report:
Both rugs appear to be in good state of preservation. The Beluchi rug shows a consistent pile with no significant areas of wear, though the fringes exhibit minor tangling and unevenness. The Chinese circular rug is in very good, clean condition with a full and well-maintained fringe. No obvious stains, holes, or repairs are visible in the provided images.
