The lot comprises two separate garden ornaments. The first is a cast iron horizontal sundial with a circular dial face decorated with a raised relief motif of a dragonfly and water lilies. The dial is bordered by cast Roman numerals and mounted on a short pedestal base with an ornate, pierced scrollwork design. The second item is a cylindrical terracotta vessel of the type traditionally used as a chimney pot, here repurposed as a garden planter or pedestal. It features a simple flared rim and base. Both items are finished in green paint. No maker’s marks are visible.
Condition report:
Both items are in a weathered condition consistent with outdoor exposure. There is extensive peeling and flaking of the green painted finish on both objects, revealing the underlying terracotta and metal. The cast iron sundial shows surface oxidation and contains organic garden debris in the base. The terracotta planter has minor chips and abrasions to the rim and base and evidence of soil residue internally.
