A trio of framed artworks including two oil paintings and a railway print by Philip D. Hawkins. This lot comprises two original oil on canvas paintings and one framed colour print on paper. The first painting is a Mediterranean coastal landscape featuring a terraced villa and sailboats, executed in an impressionistic style with heavy impasto brushwork. It is signed DANTE in white paint in the lower right corner. The second painting is a coastal seascape depicting a cresting wave, signed Schubert in brown paint in the lower right corner. Both works are presented in dark-stained timber frames with gilded slips. The collection is completed by a framed print titled The Power And The Glory by Philip D. Hawkins G.R.A., published by Quicksilver Publishing. The print depicts the GWR locomotive No. 6024 King Edward I and carries a reproduced artist signature in the lower left of the image along with descriptive text in the lower margin.
Condition report:
The oil painting signed Dante exhibits extensive craquelure and some evidence of paint lifting in the heavy impasto foreground (photo 5). The seascape signed Schubert is in good overall condition with only minor surface dust present (photo 2). The railway print appears in good condition and is housed behind glass; the frame shows no significant signs of damage (photo 6).
