Start price: £8

Estimated price: £8 - £20

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £5

A collection of sedimentary and mineral fossil specimens including ammonite and Gryphaea examples. The assortment primarily comprises marine fossils and geological fragments characteristic of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The lot features two large slabs of sedimentary matrix, possibly limestone or ironstone, displaying prominent spiral ammonite impressions. Also included is a large iridescent oyster shell and a well-preserved Gryphaea specimen, commonly known as a Devil’s Toenail. The collection contains multiple dark flint nodules showing conchoidal fracturing and irregular mineral-bearing rock fragments with visible crystalline clusters. The items are presented in an as-found, field-collected state, stored within a white plastic container. No manufacturer or collector labels, tags, or identifying marks are visible on any of the specimens.

Condition report:

The specimens are in an as-found, field-collected condition displaying natural weathering and fragmentation throughout. The two large slabs featuring ammonite impressions show irregular edges and partial fossils consistent with natural erosion (photo 2 and 3). The large oyster shell appears largely intact with its natural iridescent lustre well-preserved (photo 1). Various smaller fragments exhibit sharp, irregular fracturing typical of flint and mineral clusters (photo 1). The plastic storage container shows a small crack to one side of the rim (photo 1).
