A British made Phillips and Hyde carved wood banjo barometer and thermometer set within a dark-stained case, possibly oak. The instrument features an upper vertical thermometer with silvered scales for Fahrenheit and Centigrade, including a marked freezing point. Below is a circular aneroid barometer with a silvered dial protected by a convex glass cover. The dial is decorated with a central starburst motif and includes weather descriptors reading Stormy, RAIN, Change, FAIR, and Very Dry. The lower section of the dial bears the printed name PHILLIPS & HYDE and is marked BRITISH MADE. It further includes operational instructions reading FALLS FOR WET OR MORE WIND S.W.LY S.E.S.W. and RISES FOR DRY OR LESS WIND N.E.LY N.W.N.E. The case is finished with carved circular bosses to the top and bottom sections.

Condition report:

The wooden case displays some minor scuffs, finish wear, and light surface marks to the edges (photo 1). The silvered barometer dial shows minor oxidation and light patina consistent with age (photo 2). The thermometer glass and main convex glass cover appear intact with no visible cracks (photo 3).
