A brass and amber cased glass paraffin table lamp. This lamp is constructed with a stepped circular brass base rising to a reeded column pedestal supporting a brass font fuel reservoir. The burner mechanism is a duplex type, featuring a thumbwheel for wick adjustment and a brass gallery to hold the glass components. The shade is a globular cased glass form in a vibrant amber colour, accompanied by a clear glass chimney. The thumbwheel bears embossed lettering around the edge; however, the text is not legible and a maker cannot be identified. This lot comprises the oil lamp only and retains its original configuration, having not been converted for electrical use. The lamp represents a style of domestic lighting characteristic of the late 19th or early 20th century.
Condition report:
The brass components show a natural aged patina with areas of surface oxidation and tarnishing throughout (photo 1). The amber cased glass shade and the clear glass chimney appear to be free of significant cracks or chips (photo 1). The burner mechanism appears complete but has not been tested for functionality with fuel.
