This lot comprises two mantel clocks including a Swiza brass example. The larger timepiece is a copper-alloy mantel clock in the Gothic style, featuring a pointed arch case with a beaded border and a relief-cast base panel depicting a village festival or tavern scene with dancing figures. It has a circular silvered dial with black Arabic numerals and Breguet style hands. The case shows significant wear to its original silver or nickel plating, and a large circular access panel is located on the rear. The second item is a small Swiss brass carriage style mantel clock. It features a gilt dial with an engraved foliate centre and a silvered chapter ring with black Roman numerals. The dial is marked SWIZA in the centre and SWISS MADE along the bottom edge, while a top roundel bears the motto Tempus Fugit. The brass case has a domed top with a carrying handle, and the rear plate is marked SWISS MADE with integrated winding keys for time and alarm functions.
Condition report:
The larger Gothic style clock shows significant surface oxidation and widespread loss of the original plating, revealing the base metal and areas of verdigris (photo 1 and photo 4). Scratches are present on the silvered dial and across the case (photo 2). The smaller Swiza clock shows heavy pitting, tarnishing, and surface corrosion, particularly concentrated on the base and top edges (photo 3). The crystals on both clocks show light surface scratches. Both movements are untested and their working status is unknown.
