A pair of Spode ceramic Blue Italian pattern serving pieces comprising a tall circular dome and a matching underplate. The earthenware set is decorated with underglaze blue transfer-printing, displaying a central pastoral landscape featuring Roman-style ruins, figures, and livestock. This scene is framed by a dense border of floral patterns influenced by Chinese and Imari ceramics. The circular dome is fitted with a moulded finial in the form of a flower head. A blue printed mark to the underside of the plate in Gothic script reads ‘Spode’, below which is ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’, ‘ITALIAN’, ‘SPODE DESIGN’, and ‘C. 1816. U’. The underside of the plate also displays small kiln stilt marks. This lot comprises the dome and underplate only; no additional items shown in the background are included.
Condition report:
Both pieces are in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. There is some minor, fine crazing to the glaze on the underside of the plate (photo 3). A few small stilt marks are present on the base (photo 3).
