A collection of sterling silver mounted glass dressing table and vanity items including Joseph Gloster and Sons examples. The assortment features Birmingham sterling hallmarks from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The group comprises a circular hand mirror decorated with an engine-turned linear pattern and a central unengraved cartouche, alongside two brushes with ornate repoussé silver handles and backs displaying scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The collection also includes a cut glass dressing table jar with a heavily embossed lid, a small cylindrical glass jar with a plain silver collar, and a tall yellow-tinted faceted glass scent bottle with an embossed cap. One collar bears the maker mark J.G&S in a rectangular punch for Joseph Gloster & Sons, accompanied by a lion passant, a Birmingham anchor, and a date letter f for 1905. An embossed lid displays a lion passant, an anchor, and a date letter c for 1902, with a maker mark reading W.C. The scent bottle collar is marked with a lion passant, an anchor, and a date letter s. The silver mounts on the brushes feature legible lion passant and anchor marks, though the maker marks and date letters are worn and not clearly readable.

Condition report:

Significant tarnish and oxidation are present across all silver mounts (Photo 1). Minor dents and bruising are visible on the soft silver repoussé work, particularly on the brush handles and jar lids (Photo 1, 3). The mirror plate exhibits substantial foxing and loss to the silvering around the perimeter (Photo 1). The yellow-tinted glass scent bottle shows internal residue (Photo 6). Natural bristles on the brushes show age-related wear, discolouration, and some loss (Photo 4).
