This lot comprises two metal and leather edged weapons including a Middle Eastern style sword and a bayonet. The sword features a single-edged, curved steel blade (unsharpened ) decorated with red pigment staining, a brass-toned crossguard, and a black contoured grip. It is housed in a fitted brown leather scabbard incorporating a matching leather belt with a brass buckle. The bayonet is a modern clip-point design featuring a black polymer ringed grip, a serrated spine, and a wire-cutting aperture in the blade. The ricasso of the bayonet blade is impressed with the characters STAINLESS. The bayonet includes a drab green polymer and metal scabbard fitted with a wire-cutter lug and a canvas webbing frog.
Condition report:
The bayonet blade and metal scabbard components exhibit heavy surface corrosion and rust throughout (photo 1). The sword blade shows surface oxidation and wear, and the leather and textile components show moderate age-related wear and fraying (photo 2). The red pigment on the sword blade appears to be an intentional application (photo 1).
