Sold for: £28
A Delphis style Poole Pottery ceramic charger featuring hand painted decoration. The piece is of large circular form with a shallow well, decorated with a vibrant abstract radial design consisting of a central ring of dark teal and orange spots on a deep red ground. This is surrounded by broad orange and yellow brushstrokes and an outer border of teal and black petal-shaped motifs with white reactive highlights. The entire surface is finished in a high-gloss glaze. To the reverse, the base is marked with a printed black stamp featuring the word POOLE above a stylised leaping dolphin silhouette, with POTTERY ENGLAND below. An additional hand-painted mark in black ink is present in the form of a cursive m. The underside also shows three unglazed kiln prop marks on the foot rim and the remnants of a large rectangular adhesive paper label.
Condition report:
The charger appears in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs. Three small unglazed circular points on the reverse foot rim (photo 2 and 3) are intentional kiln prop marks from the manufacturing process. The base shows remnants of a partially removed paper label and light surface soiling to the unglazed foot (photo 3).
