A large Spode Blue Italian pattern ceramic kettle. This large earthenware kettle is constructed with a fixed, overhead arched handle and a matching domed lid featuring a floral knop. The exterior is decorated using an underglaze blue transfer-print technique, depicting a classic Italianate landscape with ruins, figures, and livestock. The upper portion and handle are adorned with an ornate border of Oriental-style scrolls and floral motifs. Spode marks are typically comprised of the company name in script or block letters, often accompanied by the pattern name and manufacturing origin. The underside of the base bears a printed mark in blue that corresponds with these characteristics, featuring the script word Spode, followed by ENGLAND, ITALIAN, SPODE DESIGN, and c. 1816 W. A white adhesive label is adhered to the handle reading Shobrook & Co 396 Plymouth.
