A collection of Goebel Hummel hand-painted ceramic figurines featuring various stylised depictions of children in thematic scenes. The group is decorated in a signature palette of muted, earthy tones and includes several figures with an incised M. J. Hummel signature on the base or lower side. One figurine depicts a seated boy with headphones, bearing a blue printed mark to the underside reading Today’s Children and © Goebel W.Germany. A skier figurine includes an adhesive label reading Skier and a blue backstamp reading Goebel W.Germany with a V and bee device. Other subjects include a baker with an adhesive label reading Baker, a painter with a palette, a child with geese, and a boy with a dog climbing a tree. Backstamps across the collection include printed marks reading W-Germany, by W. Goebel, and Goebel W.Germany. Several pieces bear incised model numbers such as 159, 198/2/0, 127, 304, 56 A, 199/I, 47/0, and 128, with some figures featuring incised date marks for 1948 and 1955. This lot comprises the figurines only; the wooden table surface shown in the images is not included.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good condition with some visible signs of age and handling. Surface dust is present across multiple figures. The figurine with headphones shows scuffing and dark marks to the unglazed underside of the base (photo 4). The skier figure exhibits minor localized paint wear to the red scarf (photo 5). Fine crazing is visible to the glaze on the hat of the traveller with the pig (photo 8). The painter figurine shows light surface soiling to the palette and jacket (photo 21). The girl with chickens has a small firing pinhole to the glaze on her lower back (photo 28). Minor base scuffing and shelf wear are present throughout the group.
