Start price: £20

Estimated price: £20 - £40

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £300

This lot comprises a professional-grade silver-plated cornet manufactured by Boosey & Hawkes. The instrument is constructed from silver-plated brass and features a classic Shepherd’s crook wrap with three piston valves. The bell flare is elaborately engraved with a circular mark reading SOVEREIGN in an arch above a central logo consisting of the letters B and H. The lower portion of the circle reads BOOSEY & HAWKES, with LONDON positioned directly below and MADE IN ENGLAND further down the flare. The cornet is housed in its original black hardshell carrying case, which features a brown plush lining and includes a protective gold-coloured cloth wrap. The case exterior bears a red and white circular retailer’s sticker for Trevada Music, Camborne, and a weathered paper label reading ST RANGER and HORNC… TOWN BAND, suggesting local Cornish provenance.

Condition report:

The instrument exhibits heavy surface tarnish across the entire silver-plated finish, as seen in photos 2, 4, and 5. There are small cosmetic dings visible on the leadpipe (photo 4) and minor nicks to the bell rim (photo 6). The mechanical function of the valves and tuning slides has not been tested. The carrying case shows significant external wear, including corrosion to the metal latches (photo 1) and scuffing to the outer material (photo 8). The interior lining displays signs of age and general use.
