Start price: £30

Estimated price: £30 - £50

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £90

A Victorian style mahogany writing table featuring a rectangular top with a dark leather writing inset and burr veneer drawer fronts. The inset leather top is decorated with a gold-tooled Greek key and scroll border, framed by a cross-banded edge of figured burr wood, possibly burr walnut. The frieze contains two drawers, each faced with highly figured burr veneer and fitted with two turned wooden pull knobs and a central brass-lined keyhole. The drawers are mahogany-lined and constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints. The piece is supported by four substantial turned and ringed tapering legs, each terminating in brass casters. No manufacturer marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior or interior of the drawers. This lot does not include any keys for the drawer locks.

Condition report:

The writing table is in fair antique condition. The inset leather top is heavily worn, showing numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and prominent circular pressure marks (photos 1, 4, and 7). The wooden surfaces exhibit general wear consistent with age, including minor nicks and abrasions to the legs and frieze (photos 2, 3, and 8). There is noticeable colour variation and fading to the burr veneer on the drawer fronts, particularly to the left drawer (photos 1 and 5). One brass caster appears slightly bent but remains functional (photo 8). No keys are present.
