Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £26

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £14

This lot comprises a vintage Turkish style hand-knotted wool tribal rug. The rug is constructed from wool pile on a wool or cotton foundation, featuring a central field in a deep madder red tone. The field is dominated by two large, interconnected, stepped hexagonal medallions outlined in light blue and cream, each containing a central dark indigo cruciform motif with internal geometric details. The surrounding area is decorated with various small, scattered geometric filler motifs. The design is enclosed within a complex multi-layered border system, including a wide main border with repeating geometric diamond and star patterns in indigo, red, and cream tones, flanked by narrower guard stripes. No manufacturer markings, weaver signatures, or labels are visible on either the front or the reverse of the textile.

Condition report:

The rug exhibits signs of age and significant use. There is general surface wear across the field, with the pile appearing low in several areas, particularly towards the centre (photo 1). Noticeable surface fading is present across the front of the rug when compared to the original vibrancy visible on the reverse (photo 2). The fringes at both ends are heavily worn, uneven, and show significant loss (photo 1). The side edges or selvedges appear mostly intact but display minor fraying (photo 2). No significant holes or large stains are visible in the provided images.
