This lot comprises two wool area rugs including a Belgian machine-made rug and a Chinese style thick-pile rug. The first rug features a traditional medallion design with a central cruciform floral motif on a vibrant red field, decorated with scattered floral sprays and enclosed by a navy main border with multiple minor guard stripes. It is constructed with a 100 per cent pure worsted wool pile. An adhesive paper label on the reverse is printed with the word KASHMIR in large red stylised characters and carries text reading SPECIALLY SELECTED BY THE HOUSE, 100% PURE WORSTED WOOL, and MADE IN BELGIUM. The label also includes the Woolmark PURE NEW WOOL PILE logo, and references 265 KASHMIR – H. O. F G 4923/01599/1071, 823 13, and dimensions of 120 X 170. The second rug is a thick-pile wool example in a Chinese style, featuring a neoclassical design with a central oval floral bouquet on a dusty blue field. The field is enclosed by corner floral sprays and a wide cream border with scrolling acanthus and floral motifs, finished with a knotted white cotton fringe at two ends.
Red rug: 120 cm x 170 cm (approx. 47 in x 67 in)
Blue rug: 94 cm x 173 cm (approx. 37 in x 68 in).

Condition report:

The red rug is in good overall condition with minor wear to the outer binding edges (photo 1) and a partially peeling manufacturer label on the reverse (photo 2). The blue rug is in fair condition with visible areas of surface dirt and light staining to the blue field (photo 5). The cotton fringe on the blue rug shows significant fraying, tangling, and discolouration at the ends (photo 7).
