A framed late Qing Dynasty style Chinese silk embroidered panel featuring a hundred boys festive motif. This lot comprises a single vertical panel hand-embroidered in silk threads on a light-toned silk ground. The central composition illustrates numerous figures engaged in celebratory activities, including a dragon dance, the playing of musical instruments such as cymbals and drums, and the carrying of lanterns and ceremonial banners. The figures are executed in a vibrant palette including pink, blue, and green silk. The main scene is enclosed within multiple borders, including a patterned band and a wide brown silk border featuring repeating geometric floral medallions. A small banner held by figures in the lower quadrant contains two characters embroidered in black thread on a red ground; however, these characters are not legible as a name or inscription. The panel is presented behind glass within a gilt wood faux bamboo frame.
Condition report:
The silk ground shows overall light toning and minor areas of foxing or discolouration consistent with age (photo 1). There is minor loose threading visible on some of the embroidered figures, though the majority of the needlework appears stable (photo 2). The gilt faux bamboo frame exhibits minor surface abrasions and small areas of gilt loss at the corners and along the edges (photo 1).
