A pair of Victorian style brass and porcelain bedstead ends, comprising a tiered headboard and a matching footboard. The ends are constructed from tubular brass with cast joints, featuring decorative horizontal and vertical rail configurations. A central decorative feature consists of nine spherical white porcelain spacers, three to the headboard and six to the footboard, each decorated with a transfer-printed floral spray of pink roses, blue and yellow wildflowers, and green foliage held within flared brass collars. The corner posts are surmounted by large polished brass spherical finials, with smaller ball finials at the rail junctions. Each post is fitted with an integrated black-painted cast iron side rail bracket. No manufacturer marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the brass work or the iron components.
Width across side rail brackets approximately 60 inches (152 cm).
Condition report:
The brass work retains a bright polished finish with scattered areas of light tarnishing, surface scratches, and minor oxidation consistent with age (photos 4 and 5). The porcelain inserts appear to be in good order with no visible cracks or chips to the glaze or transfers (photo 3). The black-painted cast iron brackets show typical surface wear, paint loss, and minor oxidation (photo 7).
