This lot comprises a pair of two Peggy Davies Ceramics hand painted Toby jugs depicting Tommy Cooper and Winston Churchill. The Tommy Cooper figure is rendered in his trademark stage costume, including a red fez, yellow cummerbund, and black evening suit, depicted pulling a white rabbit from a black top hat. The figure stands upon a yellow base with stylised feet. The Winston Churchill figure, titled The Great Statesman, portrays the subject seated in a pinstriped suit with a blue bow tie, holding a BBC microphone and a cigar. Both pieces are decorated with bright hand-painted glazes and sit on rectangular bases. Accompanying the lot are two certificates of authenticity. The first reads Kevin KF Francis PRODUCED BY PEGGY DAVIES CERAMICS… This is to Certify that Tommy Cooper TOBY JUG GUILD PIECE 1997 and identifies Andy Moss as the sculptor. The second certificate reads Kevin KF Francis PRODUCED BY PEGGY DAVIES CERAMICS… This is to Certify that Churchill – The Great Statesman Toby Jug EXCLUSIVE GUILD TOBY JUG 1999/2000, identifying modelling by Andy Moss to a design by Pamela Jones.

Condition report:

Both figures appear in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations across the visible surfaces (photos 1-3). The glazes and hand-painted details remain bright and intact. The accompanying paper certificates of authenticity show minor signs of handling but are complete and legible (photos 2 and 3).
