This lot comprises two ceramic Toby jugs including a Kevin Francis Ceramics Winston Churchill figure. The first jug depicts Sir Winston Churchill seated in a black suit, pinstripe trousers, and a blue polka dot bowtie, holding a cigar with a lion positioned at his left side. His black bowler hat forms the rim of the vessel. The figure is accompanied by documentation including a blue certificate from Kevin Francis Ceramics Ltd for model KF.06, W. S. Churchill, stating the piece was modelled by Peggy Davies as a limited edition of 5000 and is dated 1989. A green Certificate of Authenticity folder produced by Ceramic Sculpture by Peggy Davies is also included. The base carries a Latin inscription featuring the characters QUANTUM ADABILE E. The second jug is finished in a traditional eighteenth century style, depicting a seated man in a black tricorn hat, brown frock coat, and green waistcoat holding a small jug. No manufacturer marks are legible on this second figure.
Condition report:
Both jugs appear to be in good overall condition. The Winston Churchill figure shows some minor white spots and glaze inconsistencies on the brim of the bowler hat, which appear to be kiln marks from manufacture (photo 1). The traditional style jug displays no visible chips, cracks, or restorations from the angles provided (photo 3).
