This lot comprises two hand-painted glazed ceramic Toby jugs from the Kevin Francis Collectors Guild, both modelled by the ceramic sculptor Andy Moss. The first figure depicts the literary character Mr Pickwick from The Pickwick Papers, shown seated in a red frock coat, yellow waistcoat, and white breeches, holding a blue tankard. The circular base of this figure features a printed mark reading PEGGY DAVIES CERAMICS and Kevin Francis. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity stating This is to Certify that MR PICKWICK GUILD ISSUE 2001/2002 has been produced by Peggy Davies Ceramics and was modelled by Top Ceramic Sculptor Andy Moss. The second figure depicts the author Charles Dickens in his later years, shown seated by a stack of books on a marble-effect plinth. This figurine is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity for The Charles Dickens Toby Jug, identified as an Exclusive Guild Toby Jug 2000/2001. The certificate states the figure is shown seated and 10 inches high. Both certificates feature the names KEVIN FRANCIS ESTABLISHED 1987 and RHODRI DAVIES. A Kevin Francis Collectors Guild brochure is also included with the lot.
Condition report:
No visible faults are apparent to the ceramic figurines, which show no signs of chips, cracks, or restoration (photo 1). The accompanying Certificates of Authenticity and the guild brochure appear in good condition with no significant wear or tearing visible (photos 1, 2, and 3).
