This lot comprises two glazed ceramic character figurines in the Toby jug tradition, including a limited edition piece produced by Kevin Francis. The first figurine, titled The American Sailor, depicts a seated male character in historical naval attire, featuring a navy blue coat with gold-coloured buttons, white trousers, black buckle shoes, and a black tricorn hat. He is seated on a trunk and holds a white pitcher, which is described as a beer mug on the accompanying documentation. This piece is accompanied by a printed Certificate of Authenticity which reads: Certificate of Authenticity, The American Sailor, This new addition to our Replica Collection series of Toby Jugs stands 10 inches tall and depicts our Sailor holding a beer mug, seated on a trunk, bearing an inscription., Limited Edition 250 worldwide, This Figurine was modelled by top ceramic sculptor Carl Peers, KEVIN FRANCIS ESTABLISHED 1987, and RHODRI DAVIES. The second figurine depicts a seated woman wearing a green hat and skirt with a white bodice, holding a brown and white spaniel dog. A large, bulbous pitcher decorated with a landscape scene featuring a windmill and trees is positioned at her feet. The figure is set upon a circular base featuring a continuous relief-moulded figural frieze. Both items are finished in a vibrant polychrome glaze.
Condition report:
Both figurines appear to be in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations to the glazed surfaces (photo 1). The printed certificate of authenticity is in good order without significant creasing or tears (photo 2).
