A collection of British silver coins, medals, and sterling silver tableware including a James Walker thimble. This lot comprises an assortment of British coinage (50/50 silver) including a 1938 half crown, florins dated 1928 and 1936, shillings, sixpences, and threepences, featuring the obverse portraits of King George V, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. The collection includes two medals for The Royal Life Saving Society, one of which is loose and bear the reverse engraving T.V. BEER 1930, while a second medal is housed in a red velvet-lined presentation case. The sterling silver items include a thimble bearing the impressed inscription JAMES WALKER THE LONDON JEWELLER and a size mark 15, alongside hallmarks for the maker J.W.Ld, a lion passant, the Chester assay office shield, and a date letter p for 1915. A fluted baluster-form salt shaker features Birmingham hallmarks for 1923 with a lion passant and anchor, under an oval stamp reading B.R.G.S.L.T.D over A. A fluted salt cellar with a cobalt blue glass liner bears Birmingham hallmarks for 1924 including a lion passant and anchor, alongside the maker mark L&S.
Condition report:
Dark tarnish and oxidation are present across all metal surfaces (Photo 1). The coins show significant surface wear and softened details consistent with circulation (Photos 17 and 18). The salt cellar retains its cobalt blue glass liner, which shows no visible chips or cracks (Photo 13). The red velvet presentation case exhibits external scuffing and internal fading (Photo 1). The thimble displays readable inscriptions and hallmarks (Photos 2-5). Salt residue is visible inside the salt shaker (Photo 12).
