Sold for: £32
An Edwardian sterling silver and mother-of-pearl folding fruit knife. The knife features a single folding blade constructed from sterling silver, housed between two polished mother-of-pearl handle scales and secured by three metal pins. The handle is finished with a small metal bolster at the pivot end and includes an inlaid shield-shaped cartouche engraved with a script monogram reading WH. Struck into the blade is a vertical series of four marks: a crown symbol, a lion passant, a lowercase letter k within a shield-shaped border, and the letters T and M within a rectangular border. These hallmarks indicate the silver was assayed in Sheffield in the year 1902.
Closed length: 8.3 cm
Total open length: 14.2 cm
Blade length: 5.9 cm.
Condition report:
Heavy surface tarnish and dark oxidation are visible across the sterling silver blade and bolster (photos 1, 4, and 5). The mother-of-pearl handle scales appear to be in good condition with no visible chips or cracks (photo 2). There is minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The tension of the folding mechanism has not been tested.
