Estimated price: £10 - £30

Sold for: £34

A spelter group sculpture of two children, cast as a boy and a girl in pastoral attire, finished with a dark chocolate-brown patina. The high-relief figures are depicted standing on an integral circular base with a multi-stepped rim. The boy is shown with his right arm raised above his head, holding a fragment of a floral vine which features a small aperture at the tip, signifying a lost attachment. The girl is positioned Beside him, draped in a light gown and holding a bouquet. On the reverse, the sculpture incorporates a vertical support pillar fitted with a threaded mounting bolt and nut, suggesting the piece was originally manufactured as a component for a larger mantle clock or lamp assembly. The hollow-cast interior of the base bears an incised letter M. 52 x 20 x 18 cm.

Condition report:

The sculpture is an incomplete fragment from a larger assembly and is missing its original attachments. There is noticeable wear to the brown patina across the high-relief areas, including the hair, limbs, and base, revealing the underlying greyish-white metal. A significant accumulation of dust and surface dirt is present within the recessed details of the casting. The threaded mounting hardware and internal base show signs of surface oxidisation. No other visible faults.
