A collection of elephant figurines and toys in various materials including ceramic, tinplate, brass, wood, and plastic. The group features a mechanical wind-up toy constructed from lithographed tinplate, depicting a circus elephant in a decorated tunic riding a red and blue tricycle while balancing a multi-coloured spinning umbrella on its trunk. The red frame of the tricycle bears printed white characters reading MADE IN JAPAN. The assortment includes a large glazed porcelain elephant with floral transfer prints and a reclining porcelain figure decorated with green thistle and bamboo style patterns. Also present are stylized figures in navy blue and forest green glazes, a ceramic elephant dressed as a clown in a yellow striped tunic, and various smaller porcelain ornaments. The collection is completed by a standing cast brass elephant, a naturalistic brown textured resin figure, a three-piece interlocking dark blue wooden puzzle, and a small articulated purple and grey plastic robotic figure.
Condition report:
The tinplate toy shows surface scratches, minor paint loss, and small areas of light oxidation consistent with age (photo 4). The umbrella attachment on this piece appears slightly bent (photo 1). The mechanical clockwork function is untested. The ceramic and porcelain pieces show minor shelf wear and surface dust but no visible chips, cracks, or repairs (photo 1). The brass, wood, and resin pieces appear structurally sound with no visible defects (photo 2).
