This lot comprises a Howdens Joinery Co. cast iron advertising cookery book stand with a cockerel motif. The stand is manufactured from heavy cast iron with a black-painted finish. The construction features a curved, decorative openwork backplate consisting of concentric rings and radial struts, with a central circular medallion depicting a cockerel in relief. The piece is supported by an integral easel-style frame at the rear and includes a wide ledge at the base for supporting a book. The front ledge bears the raised lettering HOWDENS JOINERY CO. The central circular medallion contains the raised lettering HOWDENS JOINERY CO. across the top half and N. YORKS. ENGLAND across the bottom half. These marks refer to the British kitchen manufacturer Howdens Joinery Co.
