A collection of UK stamps housed in a DAVO printed screw-post binder. The album features a black textured cover gold-blocked with the Royal Coat of Arms, the motto ‘DIEU ET MON DROIT’, and the title ‘Great Britain’. The interior contains illustrated DAVO brand pages, marked to the lower left, housing a philatelic collection spanning the reigns of King George V, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. The lot comprises the album and the stamps contained within.
This collection includes a mix of mint and used definitive and commemorative issues. Notable commemorative sets present include the 1924 British Empire Exhibition, the 1948 Olympic Games, the 1949 Universal Postal Union centenary, the 1964 Shakespeare Festival, the 1969 Investiture of the Prince of Wales, and the 1988 Linnean Society issues. Denominations are shown in both pre-decimal and decimal formats. Used examples largely feature circular date stamp cancellations. The collection is partially complete with numerous vacant spaces throughout. This lot comprises the stamp album and contents only; the wooden furniture shown in the images is not included.
Condition report:
The album binder exhibits light surface wear and minor dust accumulation (photo 1). Internally, the pages show varying degrees of light toning, with visible adhesive residue and mounting marks in several vacant stamp boxes, particularly on page 53 (photo 5) and page 90 (photo 7). Several stamps on page 53 have slipped from their mounting positions (photo 5). The stamps are in mixed condition; used examples feature various cancellation types, including heavy strikes on the King George V issues (photo 4). Centring is variable across the collection.
